本书以斯特恩的代表作《项狄传》为对象,研究了作者超越时代并对现代主义与后现代主义都产生过深远影响的狂欢化叙事艺术的魅力。狂欢化叙事艺术的本质在于颠覆。《项狄传》颠覆了情节,质疑了语言的稳定性,但颠覆并不意味着消极的破坏与灾难性的混乱,它自有一套隐秘的内在规则,引导并制约着小说叙事的走向。研究发现,在同质性格的引力下,空间一体的叙事与情节、情节与人物,表面杂乱无章,实则勾连有序。狂欢化的叙事艺术似音乐。
宋建福 男,1965年生,山东文登人,2005年毕业于上海外国语大学英语语言文学系,获得文学博士学位,现任山东科技大学外语学院教授,主讲英美文学与中国文化典籍英译等课程,专注英美现代主义与后现代主义文学研究,合著《英国女性小说史》与《美国文学思想史》等著作。
