本书突出记述了福建省1988年至2008年二十年体育事业的发展状况。具体包括正文和附录两个部分。正文部分包括全民健身活动、传统民间体育、现代休闲体育、学校体育、职工体育、农民体育、老年体育、残疾人体育、少数民族体育、社区体育、竞技项目、运动竞赛、人才培养、体育交往、体育科研、体育法规政策、体育场地、体育产业、体育机构等内容。附录部分包括体育大事年表、荣誉表、人物表、破记录表、奖牌统计表及重要文献辑录。
