《科技英语写作指南（双语版）》总体分为两部分。第一部分针对不同学科文化背景的学生在科技英语写作方面的共同问题，提出了一些准则并附相应的练习，来训练学生尽快掌握科技文写作要求的正式英语；科技文要求的正式英语如避免使用模糊、夸张、情感色彩浓厚的表达，如何写“结果”、“讨论”部分等。第二部分以往届学生的写作文本为例来阐述如何修改科技文的初稿，这是科技文写作的关键技巧。每个文本有四个附有较详细解析的修改稿。《科技英语写作指南（双语版）》中出现的主要科技英语写作单词在光盘中有美式和英式两个版本的发音。

蒂姆·斯科恩（Tim Skern），英语本族语者，现为维也纳大学
副教授，Max F. Perutz 实验室团队负责人。在病毒学和生物化学著名期刊上发表71 篇经同行评审的
论文，著有《病毒学精要概览》（Coffee House Notes on Virology）和《科技英语写作指
南》（Writing Scientific English: A Workbook）2 部著作。担任《病毒学文献》 （ Archives of
Virology）编辑，以及国际病毒分类委员会（International Study Group on the Taxonomy
of Picornaviruses）研究成员。从1992 年至今，一直在奥地利维也纳大学和维也纳医科大
学教授科技英语，并自己设计科技英语的课程内容 。。1995 年在维也纳大学获得生物化学特许任教资
格，并先后在维也纳大学的生物化学研究所和医学院从事博士后研
究，研究领域包括病毒和宿主细胞的相互作用等。
